Frequently Asked Questions

What type of files can I send to PRINT-KWIK ?

We recommend saving as a .PDF (using the PDF-X1/a preset in Adobe® products). You may also send the file in the following types: jpg, jpeg, psd, tif, tiff, eps, ai, and png. We prefer that you send .PDF and .EPS files with outlined fonts. These files are easier to handle and will likely speed up your turn-around. Remember to add crop marks and flatten your files before uploading.

What resolution should my files be?

All files should be 300ppi or greater. Lower resolution files may be printed as is upon your request, but you most likely will not like the output. We do not recommend send low resolution files.

Why does my business card crack around the edges?

Cracking of the edges of a business card sometimes occurs when the card contains high values of ink, as in dark colors. This typically happens on a small amount of cards in the run. To minimizes this, use lighter colors or if you must use dark colors, use as little ink as possible.

What is banding?

Many things can cause banding. Banding can be caused by the program that it is exported from, such as Indesign or Corel. Also, too many gradient steps, for example going from a very light color to a dark color, in a small area will cause banding. To minimuze this, check your digital files before sending. If you use a gradient, make sure it has enough room for a smooth transition. Also, too few steps in a gradient can cause banding. Rasterising your gradient, if possible, before sending will let you see any banding that may happen.

What color mode should my files be?

All files should be created in CMYK mode. If you send us an RGB file, there is a chance that a color shift may occur and you may not be satisfied with your job. Below is an example of the color shift when an RGB file is printed CMYK.

How should I set up my files for proper rotation?

All files are printed head-to-head as-is from the files submitted. The head is always the top of your file. Make sure your files are setup so that when printed HEAD-to-HEAD the final output will read the manner desired. Be sure the orientation of both the front and back file matched. Both files should be either vertical (portrait) or horizontal (landscape). Files not properly setup, will be printed using best judgment and will PRINT-KWIK will not be responsible for improper rotation.
